Shopping for Laptops

Posted in Fun, General, Money Saving on Monday, November 30th, 2009 at 11:20 by Sarah Evans.

Today a friend asked me to look at the specifications on a laptop he was considering buying for himself. The specifications were quite good for the price but I was not so sure that he was doing his fair share of comparison shopping. Perhaps he knew I would have ideas about what he should which is why he asked. Naturally, I told him what he needed to do in regards to comparison shopping in addition to my normal statement when calculating deals – do the maths!

Hot Floors Make for Warm Feet.

My flat is not terribly well insulated. Therefore, there is typically a draft on the floor, which makes for cold feet. I really dislike cold feet. I mean, I really dislike cold feet. You can see why I was excited to find one of our newest voucher clients, Hot Floors. Hot Floors is a company that sells under the floor heating systems, a concept that makes me incredibly happy.

Magazines as Gifts

I have been thinking a lot about magazines. I just received a new copy of Entertainment Weekly and am eager to read it. I typically just look at the inside back cover where they target the hits and misses of the week. Frankly, there are a couple of celebrities I would not miss if they fell off the face of the planet. I know more about them than anyone needs to – and that is without actively seeking any type of information on them.

The Next Adventure Dog – Saving Animals

Posted in General on Wednesday, November 25th, 2009 at 11:10 by Sarah Evans.

I am constantly hearing stories about people who are devoted to saving animals or refuse to move unless they can find good homes for the animals they already have. Two of my friends have a cat to part with because their new situation does not allow for a cat. (They already gave one away.) They have offered to pay for pet care and other things but the only person who wanted to take him was unsuitable.

Holiday Music

Posted in General on Tuesday, November 24th, 2009 at 11:10 by Sarah Evans.

I’m not ready. I am simply not ready for holiday music even though it has been playing for a couple of weeks now in local shoppes. Fortunately, when I spent 3-4 hours at a book store yesterday the music was low enough that I could tune it out and hardly even noticed it.

Mapping Your Way

Posted in General on Monday, November 23rd, 2009 at 11:50 by Sarah Evans.

I just spent about an hour working on a map so that friends can find my flat when they visit this week. It is not difficult to find but as usual, I am being overly specific in some ways. I love good directions so I like to give them as well. No one has ever complained about not getting lost.

Eco Shopping for the Christmas Holidays

Posted in Shopping on Friday, November 20th, 2009 at 12:43 by Sarah Evans.

Everywhere I go, I seem to be bombarded with Christmas everything. Christmas music, decorations, sales, etc. By the time the holiday actually gets here, I will be ready to see it go for at least another year.

Attractive Attractions

Posted in General on Thursday, November 19th, 2009 at 12:13 by Sarah Evans.

Earlier today I had a chat with a friend who plans to visit me next week. Actually, it’s my friend and his significant other. I’m fortunate that both are very familiar with the area in which I live, which means while I am meant to play the hostess, I do not have to be completely responsible for every trip to the market or play tour guide. I do adore my friends and am thrilled to have them visit but everyone knows how exhausting it can be to have needy guests. Again, I am fortunate that they are not that way.

Activism in the UK – Greenpeace

Posted in General on Wednesday, November 18th, 2009 at 11:02 by Sarah Evans.

I was just reading some things about Greenpeace. It seems that the organisation is irritating officials in Indonesia. Over the past couple of days, 11 people have been deported for taking a stand at the Climate Defenders Camp on the Kampar peninsula of Sumatra. You know you are doing something right when the government tells [...]

Ferries Revisited

Posted in General on Tuesday, November 17th, 2009 at 11:34 by Sarah Evans.

There is just something about riding on a ferry. It feels old fashioned while being convenient; inexpensive and leisurely. It has been a long time since I have been on a ferry but I have always liked them. I especially remember the ferry ride from Calais to Dover. It was a bit windy but the view was lovely. I was with a large group of people and we had a brilliant time. Before I left on that particular trip my older sister gave me some good advice. Do not drink alcohol. Not that she has anything against raising a pint or two; it’s just that we have always suffered from motion sickness. The one time she did drink on a boat – just one or two – she became violently ill. Knowing how delicate I can be and how being sick would certainly ruin the trip, I stayed with water and soda. It really didn’t bother me at all that everyone else was partying. I was there for the fun and the view. Besides, it can be a great deal of fun to watch other people making fools of themselves.
