For about twenty years I worked as a graphic designer – still do on occasion. During that time I witnessed a great evolution in fonts, font families, type faces, whatever you’d like to call them. FYI – designers/printers don’t use the same terminology as computer people.
After working with fonts for a while, it becomes easy to identify them on sight. There are also trends in fonts, one or two that stand out above and beyond the usual Arial/Helvetica and Times New Roman. I know I will use a font for a while and then become so sick of it that I never want to see it again. The last time I checked my work computer, I probably had 2,000 fonts. I often sorted through and deleted ones that were the same font but had three different names.
If you’re looking to update your font cache, we have some great sites for you to visit. In addition to searching our Retailers Directory, I’ve chosen three places that will surely meet all of your font needs.
First is Linotype. This company has been around for more years than most of us have been alive. Their products are top of the line (no pun intended) and are very high quality.
Two other sites that can help you beef up your font stash are Fonts.com and Fontware WSM. I’ve personally used Fonts.com and like what I see.
I think my favourite part of these sites is that you get to see what you are buying, rather than picking out a package deal with things you will never use.
