I’m not ready. I am simply not ready for holiday music even though it has been playing for a couple of weeks now in local shops. Fortunately, when I spent 3-4 hours at a book store yesterday the music was low enough that I could tune it out and hardly even noticed it.
Don’t misunderstand – I like holiday music. Some of it, at least. My favourites are the songs that I listened to when I was small. I wonder if my mum still has some of those old vinyl records. Knowing my mum, I imagine she does. Too bad no one has a record player any more. It may be time to convert those old songs to digital format.
There is something special about holiday music. It evokes memories of holidays gone by and creates new memories and the perfect atmosphere for celebrations of all kinds. It doesn’t matter what kind of music you like – whether it is Cliff Richard, the now classic “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” by the original collaborative group Band Aid, Beatles, Big Crosby, or one of the newer silly songs that come out every year.
Last year, I compiled a passel of songs to celebrate with my parents. It was a big hit.
