Make Gourmet Meals Cheaper

gardenerEveryone loves to go out to eat at a nice restaurant. The only problem is that those nice restaurants are often quite expensive. It’s okay to do that once in a while but what about the rest of the time?

The answer is simple. Learn to cook!

When it comes to cooking within a reasonable budget, you usually have two choices – eat cheap, chemically laden meals or learn about free or inexpensive foods. To eat healthily can be very expensive, but it certainly doesn’t have to be.

This time of year, it is quite simple to grow produce in your own garden or to buy great stuff at your local farmers’ market. Farmers’ markets pop up all over the place and are more popular than ever. Farmers’ markets offer locally grown produce and plenty are also organic.

When it comes to going out into the wild, there are many things you can look for, from nuts and berries to wild garlic, root plants, and herbs galore. Naturally, you need to know what to look for so you don’t end up in a patch of poison ivy. It goes without saying that you should NEVER pick or eat anything you are unsure about!

If you have the ambition and a few feet of space, you can plant your own garden. Gardens can be a straightforward patch of soil; raised, movable beds, or containers on a balcony or patio. It’s a great way to grow herbs, tomatoes, and berries. One of the best things to plant is wild strawberries. They are smaller than traditional strawberries but very tasty. Best of all they pretty much take care of themselves and they save you money on expensive punnets of strawberries from the supermarket.
