Motorbikes are a lot of fun but they can also be extremely dangerous. Oddly enough, the people I know that own motorbikes are careful and safe. It’s typically the other driver one needs to worry about. Having known several people that have been involved in motorbike accidents through no fault of their own, I am always especially cautious around bikes and always give them extra room just in case.
Insuring a motorbike isn’t as difficult as it used to be. Previously, some insurance companies wouldn’t insure motorbikes or if they did, the premiums were quite high.
We have a few sites that offer motorbike insurance. They include ebikeinsurance, AA Motorbike Insurance, Bennetts Insurance, and more.
The main concept of motorbike insurance is this. All users must have insurance. The minimum requirement by law is to have third party insurance, which is limited. It covers only damage to the other person, including property. The second type of third party insurance is also third party but with the added protection against theft and fire. Fully comprehensive covers everything, including injury to self. As always, read the fine print for exclusions and other clauses.
There are often package offers with insurance companies. If a company offers different kinds of insurance, you may be able to get a discount. Be sure to check the financial details. Feel free to ask about coverage increases if you feel that they are necessary. The extra cost is generally no more than a pint or order of chips.
Lastly, please be safe. Every time I see a biker without a helmet, proper clothing or shoes, I wince at the thought of what might be waiting around the next corner.
