Shop around for the best mortgage deal

mortgage-ratesI’ll admit it. I’m obsessed with the property market. Every week I look online or in the newspaper adverts to see what kind of house I might want to buy. The current recession is horrible, there’s no denying it. However, if you are in the market to buy a house (as I am), now is the time to take advantage of the drastically reduced property prices. That might sound a bit cold but not all properties are on the market due to someone who has been made redundant.

This won’t be my first house and perhaps not my last. When going through the mortgage process the first time, I was forced to learn a lot – fast. This included shopping around for a mortgage product. This might be where you have the advantage over me since we have information about the best mortgage products available right at your fingertips. I wish I’d had that information! Now I do.

Currently, three great sites to shop at for mortgages are Nationwide Building Society, Halifax, and the Bank of Scotland. Rates change quite frequently so it’s good to check in often to see where the rates stand. When you finally find that perfect house or flat, you’ll know where to go for the money to pay for it all.

Just please be cautious when applying for a mortgage. Be sure to read ALL of the documents before you sign. And no matter how good the deal might sound, I do believe that buying into interest-only mortgages is a huge and foolish mistake.
