Blue Cross is an organisation that works to help pets that need human help. The organisation is located in the UK and can only allow UK volunteers to join. The Blue Cross takes in at least 6000 unwanted dogs that are either strays or abandoned, each year. Sadly, many stray dogs are at risk of being put to sleep if they are not claimed from the pound within a certain number of days. Working harder than ever to find and rescue pets, the Blue Cross is hoping to save the lives of many unwanted or stray pets. However, the Blue Cross cannot do it alone. The organisation needs people that will volunteer to help them save animals lives.

The Blue Cross, in 2007 was estimated to take around 400 dogs from organisations that did not have the money, resources, time, or facilities to home and take care of the growing number of animals that enter their clinics. There will always be pets that need help, and the Blue Cross will always need more and more people to join them in the rescue of unwanted pets. Every single year, the organization rehomes, at the least, 6000 homeless animals that they find throughout the UK. The Blue Cross has never in their history put down an animal because it is homeless. The organisation is dedicated to keeping the animals for as long as possible, in hopes that the animal will find a new home and a new owner.

Throughout the UK, the Blue Cross has 11 animal adoption centres. These centres are set up as temporary homes for animals that are bound to be adopted by someone. The staff that works in each adoption centre is a group of experts in rehoming animals. The staff is also trained to find the best owners that are perfect matches for each animal. The Blue Cross places its biggest focus on rehoming the animals that they rescue.
