About Equity

Equity is a trade union which represents performers from a range of arts and entertainment fields. It provides representation for a wide scope of performers, including singers, dancers, choreographers, stage managers, television and radio presenters, walk-on and supporting artists, stunt performers, directors and circus artists to name just a few. Equity is dedicated to protecting their members in order to have their issues acknowledged on a larger platform. A representative will attend the yearly TUC conference in order to bring potent issues within the performing community to a wider breadth of person with the aim of having them acknowledged and recognized by a larger population. Equity is primarily concerned with negotiating terms and conditions of employment within the entertainment industry. By lobbying relevant bodies and governments, they are working at a national level to prevent their voice from being ignored and forcing the appropriate organisations to listen to their concerns and affairs. Moreover, Equity also operate on a more international scale via the Federation of International Artists to further increase the volume of people to whom their messages are recognized by, with the aim of improving these terms and conditions of employment to ensure that all entertainment workers are treated justly and fairly. In addition, as well as acting on performers' behalf to strive for better working practices in their industries, being a member also offers a range of other services and benefits including help and support in collecting your correct royalties, an Equity card which represents your commitment to the industry and professional status, accident insurance and access to the magazine which is published on a quarterly basis.
