Bike Insurance
Motor bike insurance is somewhat different to standard car insurance and many insurance companies see bikes as extremely high risk and are very reluctant to provide cover for them.
There are three main types of motor bike insurance cover available; third party, third party: fire and theft and fully comprehensive. You are required by law to have at least third party, which covers injury to another road users and damage to their vehicle but does not cover the rider for damage, theft or loss to their bike and property. Third party: fire and theft provides the same cover as third party but with the addition of fire or theft protection. Fully comprehensive insurance provides protection against third party damage, fire and theft, vandalism, and accidental damage regardless of who is responsible for causing the accident and basically damage to your vehicle and yourself.
In additon, Some policies will provide cover for your helmet and leathers and if it is your intention to carry passengers then you must make sure that you are insured for pillion passengers. Be aware, however, if your bike is stolen and the keys were still in the ignition then you could face problems making a claim even with fully comprehensive cover, so It may pay you to find out under what circumstances you are protected.
