Getting the Best Cashback Rate on Your Credit Card

edge of credit cardGetting a cashback bonus with a credit card is easily one of the best ways to save a little money.  Unfortunately, some consumers never look beyond the percentage of the cashback that is offered through a specific credit card plan.  Failure to do so can mean you miss out of some excellent opportunities to maximise the benefit you receive from the cashback programme.

While some plans provide cash back bonuses on just about any type of purchase from pearls to petrol, that is not the case with every plan.  By taking the time to identify the types of purchases that are eligible for the bonus, you can make it a point to use that particular card for those purchases.  Keep in mind that some programmes provide higher bonuses if the card is used in certain retail establishments.  If that is the case, you can always check those stores first, and see if they have what you need at a reasonable price, and earn a little cash back in the bargain.

While cashback rates tend to remain stable, there is always the chance that a provider will change that rate from time to time.  For this reason, periodically check on the status of the rate.  If you notice that the rate has decreased, cut back on your usage of that card and utilise another card with a better rate.

As another way to make the best use of that cashback bonus, consider moving those funds into an interest bearing account.  Even if the monthly amount of the bonuses is somewhat small, they will provide a healthy nest egg over time.  Best of all, you’ll never miss the money while building up a little extra financial security.
