How To Save On Petrol Costs

petrolCutting expenses is often the easiest way to save on any item in the household budget.  Petrol is not an exception.  Often, making simple adjustments to the way we do things can be a significant impact on our financial well being. There is a good chance that you can use at least one of these strategies to save money on petrol and help your income go a bit further.

Keeping your vehicle in proper running order will cut down on the waste of petrol.  Make sure the tyres are inflated properly and that the engine is functioning smoothly.  Vehicles with improper tyre inflation and an engine that is straining to work will eat into the petrol reserves much more quickly than a well-tuned car.

Rolling down the windows when driving in residential areas can also help save petrol.  Instead of running the air conditioning even for short trips that do not call for getting on a main thoroughfare, enjoy the breeze.  Save the air conditioning for times when you are on busy roads and moving along at a higher speed.

Better yet, cut down on those frequent short trips by setting aside one day a week to run all those small errands.  Make a list, then plan a route that allows you to efficiently handle each one in order.  Ideally, plan the route so you make a loop, allowing you to handle errands all along the way.  You’ll be surprised how much this simple process saves in petrol costs each week.

Finally, consider paying cash instead of using your credit cards.   Many people are more conservative with their spending when using currency rather than a credit card.  This will help you stay within your weekly petrol budget and also encourage you to be more creative in making that amount of petrol last for the entire seven days.
