As everyone looks for ways to trim expenses and continue to move through the recession, one viable way to save money easily month is to cancel your health club membership and take advantage of free ways of keeping fit. There are a number of ways to exercise while avoiding expenses of any kind. Walking is a good example.

A brisk thirty-minute walk each day will provide an excellent workout for the heart, lungs and legs. Swing your arms to enhance the impact on your upper body. Rather than incurring a monthly fee on your credit card or bank account, you can save the money and apply it to some other item on your budget, perhaps saving the money for several months and making an extra payment of the car loan.

At the same time, you get to enjoy fresh air, sunshine, and the opportunity to recover from some of the stresses of daily life. The walking will allow you to safely lose excess pounds, stimulate your mind, and in general improve your mood even while helping to keep your heart healthy.

Best of all, walking can be done no matter where you live. Take a brisk walk down the lane near your flat. Walk around in a nearby park. Take a walk down a pleasant country lane. If nothing else, walk through a shopping mall and do a little window shopping as you exercise.

For people who think they are too busy to walk thirty minutes a day, ask yourself how much time you spend travelling to and from a health club, and how long you have to wait to use different exercise machines or for a class to begin. There is a good chance that incorporating that daily thirty-minute walk will not only save money, but also time.
