The People's Club initiative is an innovative venture which is attempting to get 40,000 football fans together to buy a club which will be joint-owned and joint-managed by each fan, with all decisions going to the vote. Each match, all owners of the club will vote on who plays, and who stays on the bench and will also vote in club managers. All those who subscribe to The People's Club will even initially choose which team gets bought - provided the team is up for sale of course.

A similar venture was carried out successfully in 2007 and is currently managing Ebbsfleet United.

Membership costs from £49, though this will only be payable once 40,000 people subscribe to the idea, and the administration and set-up is being organised by a small team of businessmen. The benefits of joining The People's Club venture, apart from being partly responsible for a football club, include money off match tickets, opportunities to sit in the directors' box, attending training sessions with the squad, and entries into numerous competitions and opportunities such as picking man of the match, choosing someone to be match mascot and so on.

The People's Club website is attractive, as is the venture, even if it seems a little unlikely - members being promised, even guaranteed, a range of benefits which seem slightly impossible. The most impressive feature is the prototype of the way in which members will pick the players each game. An image of a football field is placed alongside a list of players. By clicking on the players, the viewer can learn a range of information regarding his current fitness, how many other times he has been chosen, and general details and statistics about the player. The feature also conveys the manager's recommendations and assessment of the player. With this information in mind, the interactive feature then allows the member to place the player, who appears on the football field in position.
