The Whiskey Exchange was launched by two brothers who have a passion for fine spirits and over forty years experience in the off-trade between them. The website was launched under the trading name Speciality Drinks Limited in 1999 and since then has become an internationally recognised resource for connoisseurs and collectors of fine spirits. Specialising in single malt whisky from all around the world, The Whiskey Exchange range now stands at over 1500 whiskies, with hundreds of cognacs, rums and other spirits also available.

Due to the popularity of the website, the company have now launched a sister website called www.specialitydrinks.com to allow the business to expand into providing aged tequilas and single estate cognacs.

The Whiskey Exchange caters for everyone from amateur mixologists (cocktail makers) to specialist collectors and connoisseurs. The products on sale range from affordable recognised spirits to exclusive rarities costing hundreds of pounds. Each month, the website features a 'Whiskey of the Month', which showcases the latest rare deal.

The website has received numerous awards, and in 2009 was given two prestigious accolades. In February, The Whiskey Exchange was recognised as Retailer of the Year during an awards ceremony at The Dorchester in London hosted by Independent Spirits. A month later, the website was further honoured in the world finals of Whiskey Magazine's 'Icons of the Year Awards', receiving the much sought after award of Online Retailer of the Year. These international high-status awards have meant that The Whiskey Exchange have firmly caught the attention of those in the whiskey world.

The website is well organised and looks impressive. The products, which include decanters, glasses, and books and DVDs, as well as the wide choice of whiskeys, spirits, wines and champagnes, are clearly laid out and can be searched by type, alphabetically, or by where they are from. Each product is accompanied by tasting notes, which describe the drink and give tips on how it should best be enjoyed.
