Go to Trees For Cities website to see the latest discounts & deals.Trees for Cities is an independent charity working with local communities on tree-planting and landscaping projects. Their aim is to tackle global warming, create social cohesion and beautify our cities through tree planting, community education and training initiatives in urban areas of greatest need. Since 1994, with the help of supporters, Trees for Cities has planted over 100,550 trees in cities across the UK and around the world. They are now campaigning for more trees to be planted in areas such as Bristol by building relationships with the City Council and the Forest of Avon, and delivering leaflets to 24,000 homes in strategic areas.
The environmental charity engages with communities by involving local groups in the projects such as Scouts clubs and associations with ethnic minority and faith groups. They also carry out educational workshops for children through schools and encourage students and young people to express their views, opinions and ideas about their local areas to ensure that the local environment works for them, from wildlife gardens in the school grounds to trees, shrubs and flowers in their local parks.
Trees for Cities has already had successful campaigns in a number of cities including London, Reading, Manchester, Brighton and Sheffield as well as other cities around the country. In Reading alone over 500 trees have been planted in and around the town centre, with a further 260 planned in 2009. Councillors and local festival planners have got on board with large scale projects and have helped to secure the success of the projects.
The Trees for Cities website is very attractive and well designed, with numerous ways in which members of the public can get involved. The educational elements are also well written and give information on the benefits of inner city tree planting such as helping to lock carbon emissions, playing a vital role in the urban ecosystem, and reducing noise by acting as a sound barrier. Green spaces are also proven to reduce the stress of city living, as well as simply making the area look attractive for generations.
